One knob carries two axes: sample rate and bit depth travel together in opposite directions, and every position on the dial is a specific coordinate of the two. Turn it clockwise and the sample rate falls while the bit depth climbs. Turn it counter-clockwise and the sample rate climbs while the bit depth falls.
